How to start working out as a beginner

How do I start working out as a beginner? New year, new me. One of the most common New Year’s resolutions amongst the general population is to get fit. Or to start working out if they don’t already, or eating healthier. These are great intentions to have. Keeping your body active and eating clean are perfect ways to maintain your overall health and keep your skin looking its best. However, the reality of the situation is that not very many people go through with them. Gyms are busy in January, fruits and veggies are the main targets of consumption, and people begin dieting more. Then, as February pokes its head around the corner, many routines seem to revert to the way they were before the year ended. 

Some people might find it harder to stick to fitness and weight loss resolutions this year because of the pandemic restrictions. Many gyms are either closed, have limited capacity, or reduced hours. Some people might not feel safe going to gyms where there are so many bodies around sharing equipment. Whatever the case, I’m here to give a few tips to start working out whether you’re a beginner or don’t have access to a gym or space to do so. You don’t need either to stay in shape.

Buy a Workout Planner/Journal

One of the best ways to get started on a hobby or skill is to set goals for them. It can help pave a clear path of where you are currently with your health and fitness and where you want to be in the future. There are special fitness planners you can buy specifically designed to keep track of your workouts and meals. But any regular planner will do. In it, you can keep track of your exercise as well as the frequency and intensity, or anything else that might come to mind. 

Home Workout Videos

You can find these easily on the internet. Many fitness instructors and coaches have taken to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Youtube to upload complete workout sessions. Depending on what you’re looking for you might have to pay a membership or fee to access them. However, you can find free quality workout videos on platforms like Youtube at varying intensities and difficulties. Whether you have experience or are a beginner, there will be a workout for you!

Fitness Apps

There are many fitness apps you can find on the app store for any device. There are both free and paid ones, but either can help you get started on your fitness journey. Many fitness apps include features such as planned workouts, calorie counters, and exercise logs. These tools can prove to be extremely useful for people trying to live a healthier and better lifestyle.

We often feel more secure and confident when we wear a new outfit. Whether it be for a night out, a date, or just some casual fun. Thought about what investing in some new workout clothes might do? Pump and motivate you to do some exercise, most likely! After all, wouldn’t you be dying to show off your new gear?
