Cleansing removes dirt and buildup from the day’s activities, so neglecting or skipping this step is just you essentially leaving residue on your skin that is harmful to it.


There seems to be a lot of general misconception about when to exfoliate, or if it should even be done at all. Exfoliating is a key step in your routine because it rids your face of dead skin and impurities that build up over the course of time. So yes, you always need to exfoliate. If you have dry skin, try using gentler products or cut down the frequency of how many times you do it. During the colder fall and winter months, the recommended amount of time to exfoliate is twice a week.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating correctly and drinking lots of water

Having a good skincare routine is only part of the necessary steps to keep your skin healthy and happy. The better you are at keeping yourself hydrated and eating the right foods, the better your skin will look. Your body in general will also thank you for keeping it so healthy, which makes for a good anti-aging routine. Opt for whole foods, especially the ones that contain a good amount of water like cucumbers, watermelons, apples, etc. The recommended amount of water to drink daily is 8 glasses or more.


Once again, I will not make this a step. Moisturizing and re-hydrating your skin is so important, especially after cleansing or exfoliating. These strip your skin and can dry it out, so it is necessary to finish a routine with a moisturizing cream or serum to add hydration to your skin again.

Don’t rub in your anti-aging serums

Pat them onto your face instead. Serums tend to contain higher active ingredients than moisturizers do. Ingredients to look for when choosing a product for anti-aging skincare are derivatives of Vitamin A -known as retinoids- and Vitamin C. These increase the collagen in your skin and also act as antioxidants.
