Become the Best Possible Version of Yourself This Year!
This blog post is needed today, more than ever.
There are so many alarming concerns in 2019 facing a society that at times, it can feel extremely overwhelming. But don’t let this world harden you, even if it appears to be spiraling out of control, it is vital to be a genuine human being.
What would your life be like if you went around fully aware that you matter, and that everybody else matters?
What if you saw other people, and yourself, as equal instead of separate?
Your behavior would probably be different.
The true key to being a good person is knowing that you, and everybody else, have a purpose in life. We often lose sight of why we are really here, it’s not to argue about Religions or invisible man-made borders… it’s to love.
It’s the most fundamental human experience and at the end of the day, what every single person on this earth craves.
Whether it’s holding a door open for someone, calling your mom, or giving up your seat on the bus, a ripple effect of good deeds can result. One small act of kindness can make a huge impact. Here are a few ways to become a better person in 2019.
Learn to Forgive
Letting go of anger is easier said than done. While anger is a perfectly normal emotion, we tend to let it fester.
We all love to sit there and fantasize about the perfect comeback, or how you are going to get revenge.
When this happens, it can affect your mental and physical well-being. Research suggests pent-up anger can cause difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and depression. In the words of Elsa: let it go!
Be Kind to Strangers
You never know what someone is going through, sometimes the smallest act of kindness can change a person’s entire day. Being helpful is one of the quickest and most effective ways of becoming a better person.
When you do good, you feel good. It’s not rocket science, yet so many people are left asking the question: how can I be happy? Want to be happy, I mean genuinely happy? Help others, help others to help yourself.
Next time try simply giving a compliment to someone you wouldn’t normally talk to, and watch their face light up.
I guarantee you will walk away feeling a little bit happier!
Learn About Other Cultures
If you don’t understand why one country is invading another, take the time to educate yourself on the event.
We’re all interconnected, being aware of different beliefs can make you a better well-rounded person.
Travel is the easiest way to accomplish this, once you emerge yourself in other cultures you realize just how fundamentally similar, we all are. Understanding different points of view really expand your mind, as long as you are willing to open it first.
If you can’t afford to travel, the next best thing is to read, reading transports you to different worlds. If you aren’t a huge reader, try checking out some of these inspirational documentaries.
Be Kind to Animals
Seriously. Every being big or small deserves to be here just as much as you do. Instead of exploiting them for profit or entertainment, we should learn to live in harmony. Why are dogs so amazing? Besides obviously being cute… it’s because they love unconditionally. A dog doesn’t care where you come from, or how much money you have, they just want to love and be loved.
Ever notice how a dog can come into a group of strangers and within seconds everyone is petting it? That’s because with dogs we let our guard down, they don’t judge us. Now imagine if we adopted that same attitude towards other people? What a wonderful world that would be.
We all want to feel connected and inspired to a higher calling, but truly finding yourself can be a challenge.
However, many would argue that is our souls’ purpose in life. Think back to when you were a child, what did you love? What were you passionate about? These are usually good indicators of your authentic self.
Get back to who you were before the world told you who you should be. After all, how can we truly love another when we don’t really love ourselves. If you want some great tips on self-care, read our related blog post here.
Reduce your Carbon Footprint
Now, this step is so important, especially in 2019. We all need to work on this, but luckily there are easy steps we can take in our day-to-day life! Transportation is one of the largest sources of carbon emissions in North America, whenever possible, try taking a bus, biking, walking, or taking an uber.
Another easy step is to stop eating (or eat less) meat. Everyone talks about eliminating fossil fuels, but the number one contributor to greenhouse gas emissions is factory farming. Also, it accounts for the number one consumer of fresh water in the world, especially the beef industry. It is drastically increasing the problem of water scarcity at an alarming rate.
Animal agriculture is responsible for more climate change gases than every car, boat, train, and airplane on the planet combined. Let that sink in for a second. With so many great alternatives to meat nowadays, reducing your intake is very easy.

Stop Believing the World owes you
When bad things happen to us, it’s easy to feel like the universe is signaling you out. However, this isn’t the case.
Yes, losing your phone sucks. But imagine losing your children and getting sent back to a country where you don’t know a soul or even speak the language? Bet losing your phone doesn’t seem so bad now. There is always someone less fortunate than us, perspective can be a powerful thing. Always be thankful for your life and the things you have, because you never know what tomorrow holds.
By expressing gratitude, you are focusing on the present and appreciating your life. Showing gratitude will bring on positive emotions, which will leave you with good energy. Plus, if you have good energy, you’ll attract similar people.
Remember it’s just a bad day, not a bad life.
Never stop Learning
Our brain is a muscle, and just like a muscle, if you don’t exercise it, it will become weak. Like Tony Robbins said, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying.” The information out there is never-ending, our learning opportunities are infinite, so why do so many people decide to stop learning after school?
The basic problem is that people assume that they don’t need to learn anything new. They think the education system has taught them all they need to know, that is an awful misconception that needs to be broken.
One should never stop learning. Obviously learning new skills for employment is important, but try reading up on a subject that interests you, pick up a new language, or even a new recipe. The world is your oyster.
Get involved in your Community
Human beings evolved from tribes where we all played an integral role, and this deep desire to be a part of a community still exists in all of us. A sense of belonging is such an important human need, but somewhere along the way, we have lost that connection, strayed from our tribes if you will.
It’s not too late to get this back, trying buying produce from a local farmers market, donating clothing, volunteering at an animal shelter, or raising funds for a local charity. These are all wonderful ways to get involved and give back.
You may not be able to save the world, but you could make a huge difference in your area. Get out there and give back, it’s so significant for your mental and physical health.
